Block 28.
Made a trip back to TP, its been so many many years since I last stepped in. Some things remained unchanged, some things have changed. Nonetheless, familiarity still reigns..its still the familiar air that i breathe within its compound..same fresh & tingling air of hope mixed with uncertainty..
To reminiscent old times, I made a beeline for our block 28 canteen - The Designer’s Pad. To my glad surprise, the only 4 stalls we have in our tiny canteen are still the same Malay, Western, Chinese & Drinks Stall of my time. (Malay I’m not so sure if its the same folks operating though)
I had this plate of zhi char style mee goreng from the Chinese stall that I missed. Not that its really really that delicious but the flavour is certainly one of its kind.
It so reminds me of the times we stayed back late for processing of films & printing our pictures in the dark room. The fragrance of the spicy noodles mixed with the smell of chemicals, the warmth in our stomach vs the freezing coldness in the pitch-blackness… And of cos I missed the curry puffs from the drinks stall! So I asked the ’shao dong’ (forget the bespectacled guy’s name) curry puffs no more? ‘yi-san-wu’ came his reply..oh yes! How could I forget? Curry puffs selling on Mon, Wed & Fri’s only.. haiz what a disappointment.
It’s okay, plenty of chances to go back to school from now on!! to block 28..to canteen..to buy curry puffs! ok every yi-san-wu… (and she claims she’s dieting!!)
[ from the shao dong who asked me am i from sichuan, I learnt that sichuan folks have catty eyes, are fair, perhaps broad & round, & of cos digs spicy food!
